Mr. Tanen's Tie Trouble

You have to give to get is the motto of the principal of Lynnhurst Elementary School, Mr. Tanen. As the story begins, we watch Mr. Tanen explore his school at the end of winter vacation and just before everyone else will be arriving to get back in the swing of things. He is excited and happy to see that the walls are freshly painted, the heat is nice and toasty and the refrigerator holds nice chilled milk for the children. So many things have been fixed while the children and teachers were away on their vacation. But the thing that gives Mr. Tanen the most joy is opening his tie closet and seeing all 975 of his ties falling out. He has a tie for every occasion and he loves them all. Just then his phone rings and sadly he listens and hears that because of the budget, Lynnhurst Elementary will not be building a new playground. Oh, Mr. Tanen is so disappointed and he knows the children will be and more disappointed when they hear the bad news. What can he do? Ages 5-8 32 pages
