Oooooooo.....ahhhhhh.... the cover of this eerie looking picture book features a green faced miniature Frankenstein eye to eye with three little monsters named Grump, Grouch and little Gloom 'n' Doom. All four look a bit apprehensive and that makes you just a little bit tentative to open the cover and explore what comes next. But explore you should because beyond the dark, spooky castle and the fierce monsters three, is quite unexpected.
When Grump, Grouch and Gloom 'n' Doom design a monster all their own out of tape and glue, they cleverly toss him into the sky on a thunderous day and happily see him struck by lightning. All in a day's work for three little rascals. Then, the monster comes to life and Grump, Grouch and Gloom 'n' Doom are thrilled and can't wait to see him unleash his bigger monsterness on the hapless villagers down the hill.
In keeping with his species the monster does the Frankenstein walk through the wall and heads out to make mayhem. Or does he? You see, this is a monster of a whole different color. He is a mannerly monster who offers gratitude and kindness to all he meets rather than a tantrum, a brawl, or a complaint.
Hmmm... perhaps there is a monster in us all who needs to see what a scream it can be to choose a thank you and the gift of friendship. Monsters beware! A great read aloud to talk about monsters, manners, friendship, getting along and gratitude. 978-0316-045476 Ages 4-8
