Why would anyone want to read a book about warthogs? Because it is really, really good! Three warthog brothers, all part of the same litter, must now leave the family and make their own way in the African savanna. Male warthogs are solitary creatures once they have left the sounder (a community of warthogs); although, these three try to stick together for a little while thinking there is safety in numbers.  They soon find they have different ideas as to what makes a safe home in the African wilderness.

Hmm, three little piggies building three different homes and trying to avoid the dangers of a wild dog (add in some lions and a cheetah)? Does this plot sound familiar? Donna Jo Napoli takes the familiar tale and expands it into an action packed survival story for this litter of warthog “piggies” (as the one brother refers to his brothers and himself).
