The entire school is going to participate in the Everyone In America Reads program and if they read more than 1000 books, Principal Wiggins will dye his toupee purple and sleep on the school's rooftop. Miss Malarkey is happily finding books that are just right for each of her students. She has one hardcore group of non-readers and guess what? They're boys. But one by one she finds a book that is perfect for each boy whether it's a book on Van Gogh for the guy who loves to draw pictures or a book on Blackwell for the kid who loves math. But, there's one boy who just does not want to read. He wants to play video games and eventually his video gaming friends end up coming over to his house to share their books with each other and he's the lone gamer. Poetry doesn't work. Jokes don't do it. She tries it all. Until as the end of the year rolls around, Miss Malarkey has learned so much about this young man that she finds exactly the right book for him and he ends up under the covers with a flashlight trying to read just a bit more!
