One of my favorite books for young teens. Lafayette is a seventh grader who has lost both parents and now holds onto his two brothers, Ty'ree and Charlie. Ty'ree is the oldest and has given up his dreams of MIT to assume the role of caretaker for his younger brothers. Charlie has just come out of two years in Juvenile Detention and looks as though he's headed back. This story will reach into your heart as the journeys of the boys are revealed. This book is the recipient of the 2001 Coretta Scott King Author Award. 192 pages Ages 12 and up
