Mason Dixon: Pet Disasters

"He didn’t want a dog, but now he had a dog.  Or Brody did.  A dog named Dog that would live in Mason’s house and poop in Mason’s yard and probably want to lick Mason’s hand and sniff at the front of Mason’s pants and sleep on Mason’s bed, drooling and breathing on him all night long.”

Mason Dixon is not fond of pets.  He is secretly pleased when his goldfish dies and his hamster runs away.  His parents, on the other hand, don’t see that Mason is not interested in having a pet.  Pets make noise and require care.  Mason isn’t interested in these things.  Until that is, his best friend Brody convinces Mason’s parents to adopt a dog from the shelter that is less than the perfect dog.  Will this finally be the pet for Mason?  A good read for those who are not head-over-heels about owning a pet of some kind.
