I rate this book three stars because it teaches you a lesson not to be a racist jerk and be kind, not nice, to other people of their religion, tradition, language, gender, or race. None of that matters. Maniac lives through a good/bad life of getting kicked out of the Beal's household
to meeting Grayson and having a great time. Grayson doesn't know a lot about the "Other side". They are just the same as Grayson. They us toothbrushes, toilet paper, have rugs, swimming pools, TVs, popcorn, everything you ever want and need. This isn't what Martin Luther King Jr. live up for. There are some parts of the world that still has these problems. I hope they read Maniac Magee and be one of him, no matter of their characteristics even is we have trouble.
