Kate wants to buy Dad a toolbox for his birthday but it costs twenty dollars and she only finds nine dollars in her piggy bank. How can she earn eleven more dollars in time to buy him his gift? She and her friend, Lisa, head off to the ball field to play catch with Nick and Max. It's a hot day and Max wishes he had a cold drink to cool him off. That gives Kate a great idea. She's going to set up a lemonade stand right there in Pocket Park. Working together, the kids make the lemonade, paint signs, set up the table and wait for their customers to show up. Illustrated with photographs of real kids, there's a feeling that this could be happening to any child in any town or city. It's immediate and it connects and there is the all too familiar, oh no, when little brother, Sam, rides his bike into the stand and knocks everything down. Accidents happen to everyone. Obstacles get in the way, but Kate is determined and with the help of her friends, she overcomes every challenge and finds an answer to every problem.
