As soon as you read the title, you’re going to hark back to Gulliver’s Travels with the memories of the giant human beings. So, you may be a bit surprised at first to open these pages and find yourself in the modern day world with a twelve-year-old named Michael Pine who is being groomed by a gang of thieves to be one of them. Michael is bullied and beaten by this group of young thugs so that he will join them and help them claim their territory against rival gangs.

Okay, so how do you get from gangs to Gulliver? It takes one visit to deliver groceries and then a step up and over a wall and you’ll find yourself surrounded by Lilliputians. Imagine the wonder of a tiny town with a tiny mayor and tiny farms and animals. They are all just there out of sight of the “giants” like Michael Pine because to these little folk he is a giant. Michael is caught between two worlds. There is the world of the courts and the police who have judged him guilty of badness on first sight and the world of the little people who come to rely on him to protect them from wayward weasels. The worlds are destined to collide. Drop in an attractive young lady and you have yourself a curious adventure laced with hope. Good for kids who like a mixture of realistic fiction and a bit of magic. Ages 9-13  240 pages
