Last Apprentice: Revenge of the Witch

Thomas Ward always knew he was different. He could see things that others could not. As the seventh son of a seventh, Tom has a unique destiny and is apprenticed to the local spook, Mr. Gregory. There he must learn to deal with ghosts and boggarts, witches and more. While the spook is away, Tom is tricked into a promise by a girl with pointy shoes, and unwittingly releases Mother Malkin: one of the most dangerous witches in the County. Will Tom be able to recapture Mother Malkin? Who is the girl in the pointy shoes and what does she have to do with Tom's destiny? Tom's journal at the end of the book offers another insight into the lessons needed to become a spook. Revenge of the Witch is a good introduction to horror and fantasy for middle readers and some parts, as the back cover claims, "are not to be read after dark."
