Country

When Tuyet’s country, North Vietnam is invaded by the South Vietnamese Army, the nuns at her orphanage make an effort to send all of the children to safety. Tuyet and 56 other children and babies are airlifted to Canada.  Tuyet is one of the oldest children aboard the airlift and grateful for the opportunity of escape, she helps by tending to the babies during the flight and journey from the airport.  As the other, younger, children are adopted, Tuyet wonders if she too many have the chance of being adopted, or whether she will be sent back to her war-torn country. This account based on interviews with Tuyet bring to light an often-overlooked period in world history.  99 pages with historical note, author’s note and index.
