Journey to the River Sea

It's 1910 and English orphan, Maia, is about to be launched on a great adventure. The journey begins when she receives word that she is to travel to South America to live with her long lost relatives. Dreaming of the exotic world of the Amazon, Maia sets forth with great excitement. But, unfortunately, her cousins (think Cinderella's stepsisters) are a disagreeable lot who have no interest in setting foot outside their front door. Maia could be trapped but with her resilient personality, she slips out and finds great adventure and camaraderie with two new friends who are equally determined to change their destinies. This is a wonderful adventure story with a plucky heroine and a South American setting that adds to the mystery. 298 pages
