Let's go shopping! These words mean very different things depending on where you live and shop in the world. If you're in Bangkok, Thailand, you might want to go to the floating market where boats are filled with coconuts and mangoes and durians and pomelos. For a special treat you can stop for a fried banana. This beautifully illustrated book explores the cultures and the markets of India, Peru, Egypt, and New Jersey looking at what is for sale and how the market is organized. Will you come by camel or boat or train? Exotic places become more familiar as we see them through the light of our shared experience: shopping for treasures.

This is a book that I use to build cultural understanding with my students. The information is interesting, clear, and the details are fun for the students. Lewin's paintings are beautiful illustrations showing the fun and beauty found throughout the world. I also like to use this book to illustrate economic ideas. Value and worth can be understood sharing this book.
