Roy Eberhardt is the new kid at Trace Middle School, and he's facing bullies again, but this time he finds more to life than just bullies. As he looks out the window of his bus, he sees a boy running, and he's not running to catch the bus. Who is he, and where is he going? Then he meets Beatrice who is one tough cookie, and finally he finds out about the burrowing owls, who love to nest down in the earth here in Florida. Unfortunately, the owls have picked the spot where the Mother Paula's All-American Pancake House is about to be built. Can anyone stop the construction and save the owls? A curious tale for curious minds with a bit of humor thrown in. This book is the winner of the 2003 Newbery Honors award.
