Hereville: How Mirka Got Her Sword

Hereville: How Mirka Got Her Sword

Mirka is an eleven year old girl with a dream. More than anything she wants to fight a dragon but her life right now consists of arguing with her stepmother, Fruma, and being harrassed by a pig. Yes, a pig. It's all because Mirka ate a grape from the pig's garden. This pig eats her homework, knocks her off a cliff, and gets her in major trouble at school. Her sister is convinced Mirka has destroyed the family's reputation so badly that their older sister's choices for a husband may consist of a drunk, a man who is mean and cold or a man who hurts her. Limited options all the way around. No one believes the pig is real. They all think Mirka is telling stories to avoid taking responsibility for her misdoings. Set in an Orthodox Jewish community the story educates as it entertains. Prepare to laugh and prepare to root for Mirka as she overcomes her fears and finds her courage and backbone. Bring on that dragon, Mirka is ready for anything including trolls, witches, a few overbearing bullies who are in for a big surprise and the ever challenging pair of knitting needles.
