One day an egg rolls out of its nest and rolls its way into the nest of a Mother Duck who is reading a book and not noticing things. Eventually, the egg hatches and though it is a very different sort of duck, it is accepted and raised as a special member of the family. Now this duck is actually a crocodile and it does happen that in the course of living, the crocodile runs across the path of three other crocodiles who tell him quite emphatically that he is not a duck. Then, they try to bait him into betraying his brothers and sisters by luring them to the river where the crocodiles will be waiting mouths open. What a rude awakening for this lovely fellow and even more what a test of his character. Will he turn his back on his family to join in with his kind? This is a warm and wonderful book about love and acceptance and families and being different. Ages 5-9 32 pages
