One of the more mysterious mathematical patterns we've discovered is the sequence of the Fiboonacci numbers. The pattern looks like this: 1, 1,2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, and so on. The formula is to add the first two numbers and they will give you the sum of the next number. Then add the next two numbers and they'll give you the sum of the following number. So, 1 + 1 = 2 and then 2 + 3 = 5 and 3 + 5 = 8 and 5 + 8 = 13 and on you go. Now that's pretty cool in and of itself but the magic of this book is that it reveals this pattern in nature. Take spiderwort for example. It begins with one seed and one leaf and that leads to two leaves and finally to the three petaled flower. So, the Fibonacci sequence appears in nature. The mystery is portrayed with quince and pine cones and pineapples. The photos are beautiful and the pattern is fascinating. It's a very eye-opening experience to see the math playing out in the beauty around us. 32 pages
