Great Joy

Great Joy

A little girl looks out of the window of her city apartment into the street where an organ grinder and his monkey stand in the cold. She thinks about them and she wonders about them and she worries about them. She asks her mother questions about them. "Where do they go?" Her mother assures her the man and his monkey leave their corner at night to go to somewhere warm but the little girl keeps herself awake one night by reciting the states and their capitals and in the dark she sees the man and his monkey still there on the street corner. It's Christmas time and the little girl is preparing to be in a pageant. She has a very special line to say in the play and she invites the organ man to come to the church to see her perform. On the day of the performance, the little girl is nervous. She stands on the stage trying to find her words and then suddenly the door to the church opens and Christmas walks in. 32 pages Ages 4-8
