Gathering Blue

As Kira walks into the council edifice limping for all to see, she remembers her mother telling her , "Take pride in your pain. You are stronger than those who have none." She holds her head high and waits to hear her fate. She is under attack by those who say that she is useless as a cripple, that she eats too much, and that others need her cot. But the scrap of fabric tucked down in her pocket gives her hope. Her designs are her special gift, and the community will call upon those gifts. She wants to be a weaver, but what will her future hold? Ages 10 and up
