A little, fat, round pumpkin is beginning to grow out in the field. He has dreams of being a big, fierce pumpkin who can scare the mice as powerfully as the one-eyed scarecrow can scare the crows away. He grows and grows and the day comes when he is big and round and orange and the children come and recognize him as their "terrible pumpkin." They happily take him home and begin to carve. Will his dreams come true? Will he become the powerful pumpkin he has hoped to be?
