A Family Secret is an emotional graphic novel written by Eric Heuvel. Set in modern-day Amsterdam, the main character, Jeroen, goes over to his gran’s house to gather things to sell on Dutch Queen’s Day. She allows him to look through her attic. Then, he stumbles upon a bunch of articles from World War II. She talks about how she had a best friend, Esther, and all the troubling times she had as a Jew.

She also talks about how hard life was at the house because half of the family worked for the Nazis, and the other half did not. With illustrations similar to Hergé’s TinTin series, the panels and text describe what it might have been like for a family in Europe during World War II. 64 pages Ages 10 and up 978-0374322717
