faith taking flight

Faith can fly.  She's a senior in high school and she can fly.  Three months ago she said yes to a meet up with a guy from an internet game and after a fun day at The Mall of America he told her about a summer camp she could attend that could be pretty cool.

In Faith Taking Flight, Faith lives with Grandma Lou because her own parents were killed in a car accident when she was a child.  Grandma Lou signed all the papers and Faith headed off on a bus to summer camp and found herself trapped in an experiment with some other kids.  Turns out they wanted to find out if they could "activate" her and if they could, she'd have superpowers and if they couldn't - well, it wouldn't matter ..nothing would matter to her ever again.

Back in school with her two best friends, Matt and Ches, Faith hasn't told anyone about what happened to her.  It's her secret.  She works at the animal rescue shelter and she writes a blog, Faithfully Yours, about her favorite show, The Grove.  She has over 90,000 followers.  It's all pretty normal until the day Faith runs into Dakota, America's sweetheart, from The Grove.  Their friendship begins.

Or does it?   Faith Taking Flight is a book that turns the idea of "normal" upside down.  It's the plus size girl who can fly and save lives.  It's the plus size girl who gets the girl.  It's the bisexual and pansexual kids who are finding each other and creating great relationships.

Little by little Faith's world starts getting weird - really weird.  Dogs are disappearing.  People are disappearing.  Her best friend, Ches, is hanging out with the most disgusting guy in the high school.  Grandma Lou is wandering off in the night and forgetting who she is.

The pain of a world unraveling, the betrayal of the girl you love, the tragedy of a best friend caught in a web of deceit, a drug that is flooding the community, it's all coming together as Faith starts looking under the illusion of what she believed was true.

That's a lot of responsibility for one girl.  How much can one girl, one superhero girl, take?

If you need a little romance, a little dreams come true, and the dark side throwing its shadow over all of it, Faith Taking Flight is your book. Relationships heat up and the life of a high school girl reaches heights she never could have imagined. It's a roller coaster ride.

From Julie Murphy, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Dumplin’, comes the first in a two-book origin story of Faith, a groundbreaking, plus-sized superhero from the Valiant Entertainment comics.

Faith Herbert is a pretty regular teen. When she’s not hanging out with her two best friends, Matt and Ches, she’s volunteering at the local animal shelter or obsessing over the long-running teen drama The Grove.

So far, her senior year has been spent trying to sort out her feelings for her maybe-crush Johnny and making plans to stay close to Grandma Lou after graduation. Of course, there’s also that small matter of recently discovering she can fly….

When the fictional world of The Grove crashes into Faith’s reality as the show relocates to her town, she can’t believe it when TV heroine Dakota Ash takes a romantic interest in her.

But her fandom-fueled daydreams aren’t enough to distract Faith from the fact that first animals, then people, have begun to vanish from the town. Only Faith seems able to connect the dots to a new designer drug infiltrating her high school.

But when her investigation puts the people she loves in danger, she will have to confront her hidden past and use her newfound gifts—risking everything to save her friends and beloved town.---from the publisher
