Lucia is doomed to marry a rich old man so her father can acquire the money he needs to run his gladiator school. Tag, one of her friends from childhood but also one of her father’s medical slaves has just returned from spending time at another gladiator school. While Lucia is trying to find a way out of her marriage Tag is working and training hard to be a winning gladiator so he can earn his way out of enslavement. Meanwhile Lucia has noticed that strange occurrences are happening around her; an abundance of small earthquakes, the animals being too quiet, a sulfurous smell and streams disappearing. While Lucia and Tag find themselves falling into a forbidden love the world around them seems to be falling apart. Will Lucia have to follow through on her marriage? Will Lucia and Tag find a way to escape and be with each other? Will either one of them survive an eruption that will change everything they have ever known? This book takes place in the weeks leading up to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. It is full of historical facts of this time period with an addition written by the author at the end explaining the Roman culture and practices. A great historical read! 327 pages, ISBN:9780545509930, Age Range 8-1- 14+, Recommended by Joleen Waltman Media Generalist Aberdeen, ID
