Changeling

In 1453, seventeen-year-old Luca Vero has been accused of heresy and expelled from his monastery but then he is recruited by the Pope to be an inquirer into evil doings that are going on around Rome. Isolde has just lost her father and is told he changed his will and has left her only two choices. She will either marry or go to the nunnery on Lucretili land and be the abbess. Choosing the nunnery because she doesn’t see any other choice she soon finds that the other nuns are having bad dreams, walking in their sleep and seem to be losing their minds. All starting the same time she arrived. Luca is sent to the nunnery to inquirer and see if he can find the evil and expose its source. Just when Luca accuses Isolde and Ishraq her Moorish companion he finds out that maybe the true evil lies elsewhere and finds that Isolde and Ishraq have disappeared.

I really like Philippa Gregory's adult books so I was excited to see how she did with young adult. The main part of this story I really enjoyed. I noticed that many of the reviews were not very favorable to this book. I happened to like it. About 2/3 of the book is the story in the review and then when they move on to their next assignment they end up looking into a werewolf siting in this small town. That story was still good but didn't hold the depth of the first. But the book segues well into book #2. I am interested to see where the story goes.
