In 1942 in Warsaw, Poland, many Jewish were trapped in the ghetto. They needed food and supplies which came by train. But the Germans suspected the flow of goods and they brought dogs to sniff out the food. This is the story of a young girl and her sister who outwitted the German plan by turning cats loose as the dogs began their search. The cats were great decoys and the dogs abandoned their mission and did what came naturally. They chased the cats. The story is told in free verse and the bravery and resourcefulness ring out across the pages.
