Seventeen-year-old Del has made a careful plan to escape from foster care. She is ready to break out and find herself and her place in the world. She’s immediately caught in a traffic jam where she’s forced to sit for hours waiting to be able to move forward. She spends the time noticing the people in the cars around her. The story breaks into two voices with Del speaking also as Elena, who is performing a play about herself eight years later. Pretty cool insights into the lives of those around her in the traffic jam and a wonderful sense of the possibility of freeing yourself and finding your wings. 160 pages Ages 14 and up
