Yep, this is a fabulously inspirational, reassuring book for kids and grown-ups. Could be a great graduation gift - one of those going out into the world sort of books.
As the "story" unfolds, a smallish boy is venturing forth into the world and meeting animals along the way. First the mole walks by his side. The mole is utterly charming and has a love of ..... well, I'll let you discover it for yourself, It's enchanting.
The two begin discussing the world and living and how to do it well. They ask each other great questions that really get to the heart of our lives and our pain and our happiness.
A fox and a horse will join in. They meander along and they ask the questions we don't even know we are asking ourselves, but a lot of us are asking them. "So you know all about me and you still love me," asks the boy? The horse answers. "Sometimes I think you believe in me more than I do, " says the boy.
Anybody else ever felt that way?
It's pretty much one or two sentences per page - but boy do those sentences fill the pages. This one you hold next to your heart and put on your side table so you can re-read it and remind yourself somebody else knows how you feel. Somebody else has the same fears. You aren't the only one and you are one who is seen and who is loved.
This would make a great read aloud for middle schoolers and high schoolers.
This is a really special book. Put it on hold right now or go to your local independent bookstore and buy it.
