Once there was a mother and her son who lived in a village in Japan on the banks of the River Nagara. The mother worked hard every day sewing for the rich ladies in town. Her son , Taro, was like "a rich man's cat" and he slept and ate and slept and ate. His mother despaired that he would ever amount to anything. Then, one day a rich merchant moved into the town with his daughter and built a large home. Taro made a plan. One night, he dressed as a goblin and met the merchant on the road. As the goblin, the ujigami, Taro told the merchant he must marry his daughter to the boy, Taro, or his daughter would turn into a clay pot. Would Taro's plan work? 32 pages
