Eventually, Hap is sentenced to the mines and there he gets word that his father is still alive. Together, Hap, his very good friend, Sophie, and other rebels set about overturning the balance of power and saving the beautiful blue stone that is the true heart of the people. The presence of the shoe is powerful, the bond between the father and son is heartwarming and the budding love between Hap and Sophia is delightful. This is an adventure story with some occasional flights of magic.
