Black Dog

The Hope family receives an unexpected visit from a large black dog. As each family member peeks out the window (starting with Dad, and ending with the youngest member of the family, “Small” Hope), the dog becomes bigger and more menacing.

Finally, Small Hope ventures outside and scurries around the neighborhood with black dog following closely behind. She eventually brings the dog inside, and the family realizes that their imagination was larger than the dog. They have a newfound respect for the smallest and youngest family member.

Beautiful artwork, with many extra details in the black and white border pictures. Would make a wonderful read aloud bedtime story!

************

An enormous black dog and a very tiny little girl star in this offbeat tale about confronting one’s fears.

When a huge black dog appears outside the Hope family home, each member of the household sees it and hides. Only Small, the youngest Hope, has the courage to face the black dog, who might not be as frightening as everyone else thinks.---from the publisher
