It's so wonderful to share a book with a young child that sends the message that all is right with the world. Margaret Wise Brown's Good Night Moon does it so perfectly and this simple story about a barn and the animals who live in and around it does it too. The cow and the cat and the dog are all there and we hear what they say but we also see a bit of the gentle drama of their lives as a field mouse is born in the field of corn and they play and they squeal until night comes. Then only the mice are left outside the barn rustling and squeaking by the light of the moon. All is well. Good night.
