What happens when a hungry girl and a hungry fish go toe to toe?

  • It's an epic below-(and above)-the-ice battle as friends join in on the tug-of-war to see who will reign supreme! The design of this unique board book allows one to open the book's pages from bottom to top, rather than from right to left. The result is an immersive experience which enables the reader to grasp the above-and-below aspect of this tension-filled tale -- including its topsy-turvy twist!---from the publisher

*********

Somewhere in the Arctic is a little girl named Nouka who is very, very hungry and who knows exactly what to do.  Somewhere in the waters of the Arctic is a small fish with eyes that might be bigger than his stomach and just might get him into some trouble.

This board book literally is structured so you can see two stories happening at the same time.  On the top pages Nouka has her fishiing line sunk into a hole in the ice and she has caught herself something so big... so very, very big... and Nouka can't pull this fish in by herself.  Luckily she has friends.

On the bottom pages the small fish is lucky too because a penguin has just arrived in the nick of time to save the fish from being yanked up and served up for dinner.  More friends arrive on the top and more friends arrive on the bottom.

This is a delightful story built on the wonder of friendship and the magic of working together to help each other out.  On the top and on the bottom the same powers are at play.  Who will win?

We turn the last page glad we have received this invitation to join in and feel the wonderful feeling of connection and belonging.  A light touch with a very special message for all.
