A lot of children enjoy detective work and what better place to start than right in your own backyard. This book teachers children to observe in the outdoors near their own homes. They learn what to look for and where they might find it. There's a wonderful index of bugs and plants in the back so if you go out to observe and you find something you aren't sure of, you can turn to the book and search for a photograph of something just like it. The photography is Nic Bishop so it's first class. This would make for a great summer project. Let's get those kids outside and help them appreciate the wonder of what is all around them.
