A luxuriantly coated red fox waits on a rocky cliff that juts out in to the sea, his tail curled with anticipation and hope, and his eyes keenly focused on the antlered ship sailing toward him and his kind.  Marco, the fox, is filled with questions that no one else seems to ask.  Where he thinks about why some songs make you happy and how deep the sun goes when it sinks, his fox comrades see only as far as a pot of chicken stew.

When he learns that the deer on the antlered ship are lost,  Marco seizes the opportunity to become "seaworthy crew."   He is sure he can find foxes in other lands who will have the answers to his questions.  A pigeon who seeks adventures signs on with his flock and Captain Sylvia informs all they are headed to a sweet, sweet island.  They set off.

The journey proves to be a trial.  Some of the passengers and crew begin to worry and imagine dark ends.  Others get cranky on crackers.  Others second guess the entire undertaking.

Will it be adventure or will it be trouble?  Working together, summoning their courage, using their wits and their wisdom, this charming group of animals sets themselves to overcome adversity.  But, can they?

Marco's questions fly through his mind at every twist and turn.  "Is it better to know what's going to happen?"  "What's the best way to find a friend you can talk to?"

Life's a journey, folks.  It's always better with someone you can share it with; with someone who wonders right along with you; with someone who might have figured out an answer or two.

Beautifully illustrated journey with winsome unthreatening animals, battles that do not overwhelm and an underlying sense of reassurance that life is full of questions and that's just the way it should be.

************

An inquisitive fox sets off on a seafaring voyage with a crew of deer and pigeons in this enchanting tale of friendship and adventure.

Marco the fox has a lot of questions, like: how deep does the sun go when it sinks into the sea? And why do birds have such lizardy feet? But none of the other foxes share his curiosity. So when a magnificent ship adorned with antlers and with a deer for a captain arrives at the dock looking for a crew, Marco volunteers, hoping to find foxes who are as inquisitive as he is that can answer his questions. The crew finds adventure and intrigue on their journey. And, at last, Marco finds the answer to his most important question of all: What’s the best way to find a friend you can talk to?--from the publisher
