How important is a book to you? Would you fight for it? Would you gather your armies and go into battle?
In 521 a baby boy was born to the King of Ireland. He grew up to become a bard and a scribe and he loved books. They amazed him. As he grew older, he joined a monastery and took the name of Columcille.
Columcille lived in the Dark Ages, a time when learning and knowledge and reading were fading from memory. His heart and his spirit carried him high above the average man of the times and because of his courage and determination, the spark of treasure known as education stayed lit and moved forward to light the years of our own civilization.
