Most people know the traditional story of Cinderella, of how she went to the Prince's ball, but had to leave at midnight, and lost her slipper as she raced down the stairs -- well, most, except for the bookseller who didn't know the story even existed before Disney got their hands on it, when I asked for a non-Disney version not so long ago!.

And most know the happily-ever-after ending  where the Prince travels the land to find the owner of the shoe and it turns out to be the downtrodden Cinderella.

But what if there is a twist or two?

When the house mouse is tired of all the screaming and yelling as the stepsisters order Cinderella around and he can't sleep, he calls in the Fairy Tale Fixer, another mouse, a detective, who is charged with sorting the situation and who, dressing as the fairy godmother so he fits in better, decides the solution is to get Cinderella out of it, by getting her to marry the prince and peace (and sleep) will be restored. But  Cinderella has no interest in the prince - she has her own dreams which don't include marriage. to anyone , let alone a chatterbox Prince Edward!

This is the first in this series for readers who enjoy fractured fairytales, unlikely heroes, humour and the graphic novel format.  Told as a first-person narrative by the mouse who transforms into the fairy godmother, the storyline moves at a fast pace deviating from the original here and there but generally sticking to the overall plot of Perrault's original version.

Generally billed as being for those 6+, it is one for those who can manage the graphic novel format, know the original and can understand and appreciate the humour of this approach.
