What young child does not understand the call to play a bit more before naptime? All those fun things still to be done and bed is the last thing on their list! This little bear feels very out of sorts because all of the other animals are playing and he has to head to bed until springtime. Moose, rabbits, a pileated woodpecker, and some geese instantly deliver the wonder of nature to wherever you are reading this book. You can really feel the hum of the great outdoors and feel the pull that bear feels to want to be a part of it. Off they go to race and wrestle. The images are over-sized and gently colored making this a terrific read aloud to even a group of 2s and 3s. The reassuring presence of mother and father who carry the worn out little cub to the cave will bring a knowing smile to each young listener. This is a lovely way to introduce young listeners to the miracle of hibernation and nature's wisdom. Ages 3-6 32 pages
