Imagine living in a refugee camp in the Sudan. That's where we meet Sangoel who is a Dinka. His father has been killed in the war in Sudan and now Sangoel is a refugee. He is moving to America. There his mother and his sister and Sangoel move into an apartment and have to learn to eat with forks and use a telephone. No matter that he is surrounded by changes and new things everywhere, he is still Sangoel and he will always be Sangoel. It's hard to be Sangoel in this new country where no one can pronounce his name and some people even make fun of it. But Sangoel has a great idea. He takes a white tee shirt and draws a picture of a sun and a picture of a soccer goal on it. The kids at school study the shirt and then they get it. His name is Sun Goal. They want to make pictures of their own names. This is a beautiful story to teach our children about refugees and the challenges they have when danger forces them to leave everything they know and move to a world that is so different and filled with new challenges. 32 pages
