Generations of African American women courageously raised their children and gave them strength, determination, and a sense of their heritage. This is the story of generations of these women beginning with slavery and revealing how the African Americans took their family with them in small bits of cloth and learned to sew quilts that would become road maps for slaves fleeing on the Underground Railroad. The determination, the willingness to risk everything flow through the years. Today a young African American mother raises her daughter up and teaches her the story of what "came before her." Powerful. Beautiful.
