Shelter (Mickey Bolitar, Book 1)
  1. Mickey’s once happy family consisting of him, his mother and father has fallen apart. Mickey watched his dad die in a car wreck and then he watched his mother spiral out of control as she tried to deal with the death of her husband and eventually turned into a junkie. After placing his mother in a rehabilitation center he is forced to move in with his Uncle Myron because he is not old enough to live on his own.

Mickey has followed his parents all over the world and had lived a very happy life but he was never able to make any real friends. At orientation for his new school he meets Ashley who is also a new student and their relationship grows and deepens. Then one day she disappears and nobody knows where she is.

With the help of his two new friends Ema and Spoon, he starts to investigate the disappearance of Ashley. While investigating they are led to a seedy underground world and he learns that Ashley may not be who he thought she was. But if that isn’t enough he also finds out that his family may have connections to this underground world also.

Does he really know who his family was? Is there any truth to what the local crazy lady says when she declares that his father is alive?

Mickey has finally found his first friends but with danger all around them will they survive to pursue that friendship?
