Zoobreak

Savannah Drysdale's monkey, Cleo, has disappeared.Even though she and her friends Griffin and Ben look high and low, the pet is nowhere to be found. However, the situation changes when the eleven-year-olds visit a floating zoo with their class, and Savannah sees a monkey that looks and acts suspiciously like Cleo. The friends do not believe the zookeeper's claim that the little primate is legally his, and hatch a daring plan to rescue her--a scheme that becomes much more far-reaching than they could ever have imagined. For there is more on the line than the return of a monkey to its rightful owner. What will be the fate of the obviously mistreated animals at the floating zoo? Can Ben avoid having to attend a boarding school geared toward children with sleep disorders like himself, thus being separated from his friends and becoming a research subject? Will their co-conspirators Melissa, a computer whiz, and Duncan, an actor wannabee, be accepted for who they are?The story of the great animal rescue operation is told with humor and sensitivity, and the fast pace and not-very-long chapters, most with cliffhanger endings, will keep the pages turning. Animal lovers, children with disabilities, devotees of action-packed thrillers, and young people who enjoy stories about kids who act independently are sure to eat this one up. Fans of the earlier novel about Griffin and his friends, Swindle, will delight in this new adventure, but a familiarity with the first book is not necessary to enjoy the sequel. 230 pages.Ages 9-12
