Character-Building Curriculum

An army of ants heads into the kitchen in search of sugar to feed their queen.  All set about the task and march forth with their loot, except for two bad ants who fall asleep in the sugar bowl.  Danger lurks for those who do not fall in line with the majority.

Playfully challenging us to identify the seemingly familiar objects in the kitchen, Van Allsburg shifts his perspective from small to large as we watch morning dawn and the household awaken.  Suddenly the two miscreants find themselves scooped, stirred and stunned as they journey from spoon to cup, nearly into the mouth and onward into the dark and dangerous world of those who do not follow the rules.

This adventure holds a magical quality of timelessness and possibility.  Sense it seems to exist in any particular moment, might we find ourselves there too?
