Sent from foster family to foster family, Sabrina and Daphne Grimm are used to looking after themselves. Ever since their parents disappeared mysteriously, they have been all the family each other has had. But when a strange woman identifying herself as the their long lost grandmother petitions for custody the girls think of nothing but escaping yet another crazy foster family. After all, hadn't their father always claimed that his family was dead? Granny Relda is anything but dead! And as the only surviving Grimm in the town of Ferryport Landing, she has the seemingly impossible task of bridging the gap between the Everafters and their human neighbors. In Ferryport Landing, all of those creatures of fairy tales, myths and legends are in fact real. There, Snow White teachers elementary school, the three pigs are policemen and Prince Charming is mayor! And thanks to an ancient spell, as long as one member of the Grimm family is alive and living in the town, its Everafter citizens are trapped within its borders. As the girls begin to get settled into their new life, a neighbor's farm is crushed my an incredibly large foot. That's right, there's a giant loose in Ferryport Landing and its up to Granny Relda to figure out who brought him down the beanstalk. The whole town is full of suspects: there's Mayor Charming who has been buying up large parts of town in hopes of re-building his kingdom, there are those hired thugs who tried to bully Granny to drop the case... and of course, this mysterious Englishman the farmer and his wife were raving about. So, who is it? When Granny Relda and Mr. Canis are taken by the giant, Sabrina and Daphne must put on their sleuthing hats and test their knowledge of fairy tales in order to solve the crime. And who knows, help can come in the most unlikely of places. Meant to be read with a nod and a wink to the classic tales, The Fairy tale detectives has the same air about it as Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events. A pleasing quick read.
