"Outward appearances may be very different....we live to be loved by family and friends and to be part of a larger family...Inwardly we are so alike, it could be each other we see when we look in a mirror," writes Jeannie Baker in this amazingly designed book for children about two families. One lives in Australia and the other lives in Morocco. The book is structured so that it has two front covers. The Australian cover opens from the right and reveals a wordless picture book about a day in the life of a boy in Australia. It's filled with a baby, a drive to the city to shop for computers and hardware items. It's filled with a church steeple and a visit to a Magic Carpet store to buy a beautiful carpet.

The other front cover opens from the left and reveals a mosque and a huge brown desert with a tiny donkey carrying a rider to the marketplace. This too is a wordless picture book that follows a day from the morning prayers, the baking of bread, the sipping of tea, the journey through a world of donkeys and bicycles to a marketplace with five cell phones laid out on a blanket for sale. At home the family gathers around the computer to connect to the world. But, along the way, they carry their beautiful carpet to the marketplace to sell.

As you turn each page on one side of the book, you can match it to the page on the other side of the book and compare what is happening in each culture at that point in the day. The geography is so different, the marketplace is so different, the clothing is so different, the food is so different. but there are also many things that are the same and almost symbolically, the same moon shining over both families, opens the door to the two stories. On the inside, we are very much the same. This is a wonderful way to open a child's heart and mind to accepting differences. 48 pages Ages 6-11
