Knock Knock! A young African American boy lies delightedly under the tousled covers of his warm bed early each morning waiting for the special knock on his door. It's his father and every morning that knock brings his father in to his room where the boy pretends to be asleep. His father gathers him up with a warm morning greeting of "I love you."
Then the morning comes when that Knock does not come. His father is gone.
What does a father mean to a boy? What does the father's everyday play and love give to him and what happens when it simply disappears perhaps never to return.
This is a poignant real life story told with illustrations filled with shadow and light. You may need a tissue for this one.
