Iraqi Girl

We watched it on CNN. We read about it in the newspapers. The war in Iraq was supposed to be about shock and awe and a better way of life for the Iraqi people. But what was happening in the everyday lives of Iraqi families? For three years, fifteen-year-old Hadiya, blogged about her life in war-torn Mosul, Iraq. This is her story. She writes of growing up, of hardship, of love and of loss. Hadiya describes the changes in her country and in herself and sometimes she wishes she could go back to the old ways. American teens will relate to Hadiya as she shares her normal teen angst and the growing pains of moving through the teenage issues but they'll be opening a new door for themselves as they face along with Hadiya, the loss of her relatives and the destruction of her community. Her words are sometimes anti-Iraqi and sometimes anti-American. Her heart's desire is for peace. Developed by John Ross. 208 pages
