Good Luck Girls (The Good Luck Girls)

Her Lucky Night.  Today is Clementine's 16th birthday and that means tonight will be her lucky night.  She has finally risen up through the ranks at the Welcome House to be gowned and primped and made ready for her very special coming of age night.  She's a Good Luck Girl.  It's a doorway to a whole new life.  But when Clementine walks through that doorway she finds herself alone in a room with a man who has just one intention.  He has paid good money for her at the auction and now he's going to get his money's worth.  Clementine panics and in the process manages to land a lamp on the guy's head that brings him down....permanently.

Clementine's sister, Aster, knew what was in store for Clementine and wants to do something to save her from this life.  The two sisters are Dustbloods, part of a race that had its shadows ripped away back when the Empire fell.  For years now the Dustbloods have been working the mines and their daughters have been taken from them at an early age to be groomed for their own Lucky Nights.  Each girl has a "favor" embedded under her skin and that favor keeps them trapped in a world of no escape.

But tonight that world is going to tilt.  The rules are going to change.  When Clementine finds her sister and tells her about the dead body in her room, it's going to take an all-or-nothing idea.  What have they got to lose?  What have they got to gain?

Five young women, Clementine, Aster, Violet, Tansy and Mallow are going to go through the window of the Welcome House that night to defy the rules of the world they live in.  Five young women are going to go in search of freedom and the possibility of a chance... a chance to have power over themselves and their own destinies.  Each one will bring her own grit and skills to this desperate challenge.  They'll be up against a system that is going to be sure no woman ever escapes their domination.  They'll be fighting against unseen, paranormal phenomena.

What chance do they have?  Is there anyone out there who could help them? Is there anyone out there who has been willing to take on this system?

Set in a Wild West/ Fantasy world, this is an action-packed, Thelma and Louise inspired, women not taking it anymore banquet. This book is what the term "kick-ass heroine" was invented for.  They aren't going to give up and they aren't going to stop and they are willing to do whatever it takes - no matter what - because they know they're worth it.

The country of Arketta calls them Good Luck Girls―they know their luck is anything but. Sold to a “welcome house” as children and branded with cursed markings. Trapped in a life they would never have chosen.

When Clementine accidentally murders a man, the girls risk a dangerous escape and harrowing journey to find freedom, justice, and revenge in a country that wants them to have none of those things. Pursued by Arketta’s most vicious and powerful forces, both human and inhuman, their only hope lies in a bedtime story passed from one Good Luck Girl to another, a story that only the youngest or most desperate would ever believe.

It’s going to take more than luck for them all to survive.--from the publisher
