Finally

Rory Swenson has waited her entire life to be twelve years old. Now she's about to have her twelfth birthday and her life will be everything she's ever dreamed of. She can get her own cell phone- she does but she keeps getting calls from people trying to order pizzas. She can stay home alone -wait, what's that noise? She goes to get contact lenses and ends up with an eye patch instead. Shaving her legs for the first time involves every available bandaid in the house. Something magical is going on here and it all began with the old woman who pulled Rory out of a drainpipe and told her "You won't get what you want until you know what you need." Is the secret of life increasing its speed? Trying to get there a bit faster? Then, Rory calls her best friend, Annabelle, and asks her the all-important question: Why do you like being my friend? All the rites of passage have a humorous side to them and at least at first glance maybe they aren't quite what Rory expected. But, she'll always have herself. 304 pages
