The Bayar family has convinced her mother, the reigning queen, that Raina needs to marry Micah, the son of the High Wizard. Raina knows that if she marries a wizard—any wizard--that she will alienate a significant part of her queendom. Therefore, she and Amon devise a plan for her to attend Wein House, the military academy at Oden’s Ford. This will provide her sanctuary as well as necessary tools to rule.
Han Alister is attending Mystwerk House in Oden’s Ford at the same time. When Han sees Raina, he recognizes her as the girl from his village, and he wants to spend more time with her. However, he encounters people that he was not expecting who promise to help him in ways he did not think were possible.
As Raina and Han both acquire knowledge and skills at their respective schools, they also learn about each other and what parts they will play as the story unfolds.
Chima does a marvelous job of producing a second installment in the series. Readers will root for Han and Raisa to fight against the evil wizards and find out the true story behind the demon king legend.
