Using all the right ingredients, a big bowl and a toasty oven, a cupcake was born. Being a friendly sort of cupcake, he introduced himself immediately to his fancy brothers and sisters. Now the brothers and sisters are a fancy lot: Rainbow-sprinkles cupcake, stripy cupcake, polka-dot cupcake and so forth. There they all sit on the plate until the end of the day, when cupcake realizes only he has not been picked. "I'm too creamy white and plain!" It's so hard to feel so alone. It's so hard to feel so ordinary. Thank goodness for candle who hops up and knows just how Cupcake feels. Candle also comes from a family of highly patterned, decorative family members. Then, candle comes up with a bright idea. (couldn't resist, sorry) What cupcake needs is a bright topping! Aha! Various objects are tried until finally the perfect match is found. Happily, there are recipes for "deliciously plain vanilla cupcakes" and "deliciously plain buttercream frosting" at the end. Talk about a happy ending! 32 pages
